Do all proposals merit attention?

It’s funny how actually working in sociocracy and then hitting a wall brings about new questions!

We have a situation in which someone feels strongly about a topic, changing our mission statement. They floated it with the group, and no one else said, yeah, let’s change it. And then, some of us don’t think it should be changed at all. But it doesn’t feel right to just ignore their request entirely. So what do we do if someone makes a proposal that some of us don’t even want on the table?

What are your concerns about allowing the person to present their idea, if only so that they and everyone in the circle can clearly express their reactions to the idea?

Or maybe to say it in another way, why do you not want the idea on the table at all?
