October Advocates focus: Conflict! Policy and Process consideration

Today’s very rich and useful discussion explored how conflict can interfer with community functioning; examples of “exit policies” useful in certain circumstances; recommendations for training and mediation and the possibility of including a “caution” statement in documents for “explorers” that spell out the need to commit to personal growth as a function of joining an intentional community!

Attendees have found that the “Imago” approach used by consultant/trainer Karen Gimnig can be very effective, as is use of NVC (nonviolent communication techniques) and restorative circle work.

The work of Kavana Tree Bressen and Jenny Leis, Oregon-based consultants and facilitators who support all kinds of communities to function better was also recommended.
