Hey all,
I am just getting back from the annual NASCO (North American Students of Cooperation) conference in Ann Arbor Michigan. It’s a gathering of group/limited equity housing cooperatives, mainly student coops, but more broadly a place for folks interested in the solidarity economy and developing working practices enacting our values through building structures that help folks material reality.
I was wondering if anyone from SoFA has attended that conference or given a talk there?
Many of these groups seem ripe for sociocracy, since they are already focused on member inclusion and participation. They usually have a board of directors elected by their members, which then oversees some paid staff. However, NASCO itself has adopted some form of “circles” within its staff but doesn’t seem really aware of other parts of sociocracy or how that would inform their organization.
I am thinking about possibly submitting a talk next year as a sociocracy intro and what it might have to offer. I might circle back here when start accepting applications, to see if anyone might be interested in presenting with me!
