Yesterday's co-working session

Yesterday’s co-working session was among the most exciting sessions that I have attended! @nathalie.szycher facilitated, and we were also joined by @nplanchon, @audree.morin, and @jerry.koch-gonzalez. For me the meeting was an example of the kind of space for connection and dynamic collaboration that I want more of in SoFA. I think I heard as much from Audrée, as well, who also shared feedback in her checkout that it was closer to being the self-organized space that we want all of SoFA to be. During our check-ins, we discovered that among us we had a large number of points of connection and curiosity among us, so we had to figure out in the moment how we would partition ourselves.

Over the course of the whole co-working session (which included several breakout groups) we shared and learned about a number of issues that may need work fairly urgently. Here are some of the things that I’m looking forward to pursuing:

  • Community of practice around Groundhogg
  • Broadcasting news about new features available on the website (and other changes to the website software and infrastructure)
  • How to use the recent update to Groundhogg companies in particular
  • Sorting out the domain for various elements related to the geographic map
  • Discussing the state of membership in Infrastructure Circle

There was a bunch of good conversation even beyond that, though! Anyone else want to add anything?

Hi John!
Good idea to share about our coworking session! yes you heard me well, I agree with you that it fels like very efficient real self-organizing there. Brought to us by our proactivity and leadership. We brought up some issues we’re facing in our different circles, and were eager to understand each other’s visions about those situations, and co-create solution ideas, to bring back to our respective circles.
That’s why I hope more people would join us there! It does so much: it creates really good connexion between us, which for me is one of the reasons why I’m staying in SoFA, and succeeding to understamd different visions than mine. If we disagree about something, trust is already built, and I know if I listen to those humans that I know are smart and well intended, I’ll end up understanding their vision and we’ll build something better together. Also, it can save us a bunch of emails, by just stumbling upon the person we wanted to have a chat with, like at the coffee machine at an in person office.
So thanks for doing this summary! I hope it motivates more people to try it out!
You’re welcome, working members of SoFA! Every wednesday (almost), from 10 to 12 am Eastern time.
